Hummus Toast - Easy Snack Idea!

I believe healthy snack ideas are the most difficult to figure out. I can plan out a week of healthy meals with no problem, but it's those in-between meal munchies that cause me big trouble. It's too easy to grab a handful of this or that and never feel satisfied. I eventually return to the pantry and stand in the pantry for at least ten minutes looking at the same things over and over again. In result, I end up eating more useless calories than if I had prepared a healthy snack, in addition to spending a lot of unnecessary time standing in the pantry!

Hummus and avocado toast came to the rescue! These delicious spreads have fiber, vitamins, minterals, healthy fats, and hummus has a fair amout of protein. Most of all, it makes you feel satiated. For this recipe, we only use sprouted grain bread. It has more nutrients and is much easier on the digestive system. We are not gluten free in our home, but our bodies feel much better when we keep gluten mostly out of our diets. Be creative and enjoy!

Hummus Toast Recipe - Avocado Toast Recipe

1 or 2 slices of your favorite whole grain bread - Silver Hills Sprouted Grains is our choice!

Favorite Hummus (preferably a brand made with Olive Oil)

Avocado - 1 ripe avocado mashed and seasoned with salt and pepper

Toppings of choice

Toast your bread, spread on hummus or mashed avocado and then proceed with your favorite toppings!

Topping ideas:

Banana and Honey

Smokey Tempeh, Tomatoes & Chopped Red Onion ( our favorite!)

Sliced Tomatoes & Basil and sprinkle on some Balsamic Vinegar

Sliced Cucumber, Kalamata Olives and sprinkle on some Feta Cheese

Fried Egg and Siracha!

Or keep it SIMPLE and cover with your favorite seasonings and sprinkle on some hemp seeds or pumpkin seeds!

The other day I made hummus toast with Smokey Tempeh, tomatoes and chopped red onion. It is one of my favorite things to eat. If you don't have bread, you can use a whole grain tortilla instead! If you have limited time, just keep it simple so making good food doesn't become stressful.

Have a wonderful week and stay healthy!
